Joanne Goebbels

Form teacher and French B teacher of the 1IB (2017-2019)

Over the past four years, I have had the tremendous joy and the great privilege to  teach you and witness your personal and academic development, as a  class as well as individuals, into strong young women and men. You have certainly not chosen the easiest of paths by joining the international classes. But today you can be proud of what you have achieved as you stood up to the considerable challenges the IBDP tossed at you

To put it into the words of Benjamin Franklin, “Energy and persistence conquer all things”. I truly believe you have learned this lesson amongst many others in the past four years. It has been quite a challenge, at times a bumpy road with obstacles that seemed impossible to tackle but now you’ve made it, with persistence and a bucket full of energy!

And let me add, and I think I speak for my colleagues too when I say that we enjoyed almost every minute of the ride! I do hope you’ve made friends for life during your time at the Athénée and that you will keep lasting memories of your time spent with us.

As a final “food for thoughts”, and to sum up all of the discussions we’ve had over the years, even if you don’t believe me, you’ll hopefully believe a wise man’s words: “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” (Barack Obama)
